Beehive Members Spotlight: Justin Garfano and Jimmy Carfagno

Founded in July 2025, FamilySafetyTech aims to save and improve lives by creating one shared US phone number your whole family owns for instant communication, with no app required. In an urgent situation, the system automatically works through your family until someone picks up, instead of you going down a list manually, waiting with uncertainty. Carfagno was inspired by one of his home projects; turning an old-timey phone into a remote that controls the basic functions of a house, like turning on the lights or shutting the door. Carfagno says, “wouldn’t it be interesting if my house had it’s own phone number, and then I went to ‘wouldn’t it be interesting if every family had a phone number, and there was some automated way to get in contact with each other.”

FamilySafetyTech has NFC and QR code based wristbands. If a child is lost, a good samaritan can scan it and it takes them to a dedicated website that has the “always call phone number” on it. In the process of scanning that wristband, somebody in that child’s family is already notified, instantly starting the communication process.

Garfano acknowledges how important this technology is, as it’s a lot to ask a child to remember a ten digit phone number in times of crisis. Before 2015, there was a home phone number, and somebody was usually there to pick it up. Today, this is rare, with only 29% of adults having a landline phone (CDC). Garfano says, FamilySafetyTech “allows that child to carry that home phone number with them everywhere, either in their mind, or on their bracelet, on their backpack, or a patch on their shirt.”

When asked about their day-to-day motivator, Carfagno says “getting to work on something that is a good faith product, that’s what has motivated me to work on it right now and continue to work on it. It’s going to help people.” For Garfano, through his experiences teaching at his Taekwondo school, he is passionate about helping people become the best, most capable version of themselves. “My product and my martial arts is making people’s lives better. That’s been my mission for 26 years… this allows me to continue that mission on the grandest scale: The United States of America. We built a product that is going to make people’s lives better, save some heartache or save some lives, period.” Garfano’s own family helps him envision the emotions involved with losing family, saying “this is something I want in my kids life.”

The two cofounders currently have an office at The Beehive, come say hi when you see them! Their favorite part of The Beehive is founder Chris McCarron, who, as Garfano says, “has been an amazing cheerleader for us and she’s created a fantastic environment where it facilitates creativity and energy.”
